Wake Up CallAs absurd as it sounds, I think Maroon 5's Wake Up Call vid is amazing.
It's so dramatic, and the drama itself is so unmotivated it's insane. The colors and visuals are extremely exaggerated and artificial. Love it.
Plus, it plays ALOT with the cliches - violence and sex. In fact, it is so in-your-face that it somehow reminds me of what Dr. J said about being "over the top". Couldn't believe it when I first saw the vid. WOW.
Actually, I have to admit that I felt kindda discombobulated when I watched it the first time. But when the American flag appeared, I went "ohhh."
HAHAHA.
Violence. Sex. Insanity. America. Add them all together and multiply by 100.
It is amazing how these concepts that are in the back of everyone's mind, and are literally displayed EVERYWHERE in the media have not been put together as a piece - uncontaminated by the pretentious reason that is always present in the media in hope to justify violence, crime and brainless sex. These things can't be justified by anything save insanity and stupidity. The vid is great in that it managed to capture all these in a few minutes.
What a slap in the face for the media industry. What a "Wake Up Call" for the audience whose brains are so polluted, so filled with images of violence and sex.
And what's more impressive - as much as I tried to remain an objective, cynical and sane viewer, it was hard to do so. They put across an important point quite successfully - that nobody (myself included) is saved from media contanmination and we all embrace the ideas of violence and sex and lack of reason - so much so that we lack the ability to reason at all.
How did they do that... how did they destroy my ego? By having Adam Levine in the vid. He is just too sexy I cannot help but feel happy when he held the gun out to shoot that fugly man down. Insane reaction from me, eh?
Yes, a wake up call indeed. It is sad but I am just another media junkie.

ArghSuddenly, she realizes that all the men she adored, adores, and will adore are:
Not very aware of her presence.
Middle-aged ang moh men...
... who are at least 10 years her senior.
And who has hair growing out of places where they shouldn't grow, and hair not growing out of where they should grow.
More tragically, they are always too high up there they are unattainable.
Good thing her love usually can't last for more than a sem.
I think she's officially screwed. Argh.
