Alfred Wilde or Oscar DouglasI won't say I've read De Profundis. But I think I've read enough (pages) of the book and googled sufficiently to figure a personal (and most importantly, humble) opinion about Wilde and Bosie.
Of course, both men are dead and both have their reputations to maintain before their deaths, so I assume they wouldn't be stupid enough to reveal the truth behind their relationship - plus the people who lived when they were still alive and kicking (for reasons I wouldn't want to further elaborate) obviously took sides when commenting on the matter - thus whatever information that came from the people I mentioned shouldn't be trusted completely.
However, I will not deny the value of information found on the Internet, and I will not call Wilde a liar, so I gathered what I've read from various sources, and this is my major finding of the day.
Obviously, Wilde loved men, opps, young men I mean. And obviously, Wilde was madly in love with Bosie. As much as Wilde mentioned how badly he wanted to break away from Bosie in De Profundis, and how Bosie destroyed his art, I find it hard to believe him. Just look at this letter he wrote to Bosie that I found on
Wilde Trails Homepage:
The following letter was written shortly after Wilde's release from prison:
Rouen, August 1897
My own Darling Boy (i.e. Bosie), I got your telegram half an hour ago, and just send a line to say that I feel that my only hope of again doing beautiful work in art is being with you. It was not so in the old days, but now it is different, and you can really recreate in me that energy and sense of joyous power on which art depends. Everyone is furious with me for going back to you, but they don't understand us. I feel that it is only with you that I can do anything at all. Do remake my ruined life for me, and then our friendship and love will have a different meaning to the world. I wish that when we met at Rouen we had not parted at all. There are such wide abysses now of space and land between us. But we love each other. Goodnight, dear. Ever yours, Oscar Seriously, is there a need for further explanation? The letter says it all, unless it's a fake.
It seems the only thing that is convincing in De Profundis so far is that Wilde did not hate Bosie for landing him in prison and that everyday in the cell, he was reminding himself to continue to love - love what (who)? He didn't say. But you should have guessed it.
This is really interesting... I'll stop here to continue reading and googling.
Anyway Wilde's definitely an artist with exquisite taste, I saw a photo of Bosie on the Internet and my... (to put it in a more decent and acceptable manner)... he's not bad looking.
Why am I doing all these on New Year's Eve? Because I'm sick, literally.

The Holiday FeastI am not usually too concerned about eating calorie loaded stuff. I have witnesses.
But at the rate I am eating, I am quite certain that I will explode in a not-so-far future.
Shit.
And there's still a bag of marshmellows, a tube of milk chocolate, 2 bars of white chocolate, and a tin of English breakfast cookies somewhere in the house.

The HolidayWell after staying in the avid, editing and watching people edit for months, you find it hard, if not impossible, to keep your mouth shut when watching movies. You cannot help but notice how the film is edited, the sound designed, and you will even think "ahh that's the key light" when you see it. Basically, you become a freak.
I was an irritant when watching Casino Royale. Not only was I complaining about how fugly that balding man is, I was commenting on the editing and stuff. Not that I was criticizing, I was merely commenting, and trying to identify the different techniques/structures (etc.) used in the film.
As much as I enjoyed watching The Prestige (although many people don't), I was also distracted by the buzzing thing inside me constantly telling me "ahhh... that's a XXX, and this is a XXX".
I am starting to believe that I'm obsessed with and will eventually do EBM until today.
For the first time in many months, I didn't notice the technical and aesthetic aspects of the film. I wasn't even too concerned about the story.
To me, The Holiday was just Jude Law, Jude Law and Jude Law (okie, maybe a bit of Diaz).
Don't ask me how's the movie. I have no idea. I just feel that it's worth watching a million times -- for him!
If only I have the extra cash to watch it over and over again. Muahahahaha! <3

SuperMomMy mom's cellphone just died. And although we don't really reject the idea of ressuraction, it was clear that her cellphone cannot be brought back to life.
So she got herself a new phone - the W850i.
And because she is my mom and because she is nice, she offered to trade her phone for my 3-month-old W700i.
So now, my mom has Ian's face as her wallpaper, Phantom Planet's California as her ring tone, and Welcome to the Black Parade as her message alert tone. And I am how proud of her when she managed to hold this conversation with me yesterday evening.
Mom: What songs do you have in my phone now (referring to the W700i)?
Me: Some random songs... Oh but you know the ring tone is that song that you heard the other day when dad called me.
Mom: Oh. California. (Starts singing the song...)
How many moms can identify this song and sing it? I was so touched I was close to tears.
(Note: The other day, she was singing Welcome to the Black Parade in the car)
And mommy offered to accompany me to the Hoobastank gig if nobody wants to go with me.
I love my mom. <3

BackI'm back from China. And I think the part of China I went to is... erm... Fujian?
I don't know, I only remember going to this place called Gulangyu, where there's a pretty piano museum; Xiamen, where there're loads of seafood on the lunch/dinner table; and I suspect I went to Fuzhou as well, because I ate Fuzhou fishballs on 2 consecutive mornings.
Weird thing though, because the guide kept telling us about the Hakka culture even as I was munching on Fuzhou fishballs, so I'm not sure if I was in Fuzhou or what. I thought Fuzhou is Fuzhou and Hakka is Hakka, why is it that what I was eating was different from what I was hearing? (Argh what am I talking about...)
Nothing to buy/see/do in China.
Everyday, we had to wake up at 6 or 6.30 a.m. and then ride the coach for many many hours before reaching some destination, where we had to walk on dubious footpaths/steps for many many hours again. After enduring the terrible coach rides, mainly due to the bombarding of awful Hokkien or Chinese (China Chinese I mean) songs and MVs at us cuz apparently, our guide thought we liked them so he played them for us; And risking our lives by walking on what they called steps in the mountains, all we got in return was to see some bloody rocks that they claimed look like some random stuff - ranging from animals to gods and goddesses. Claimed meaning it's fictatious.
And such things happened everday for 7 days so I almost went crazy.
The only thing I enjoyed there was watching the Man Utd/Man City and Chelsea/Arsenal matches - Which I could easily watch in Singapore. But damn why did Chelsea and Arsenal draw?
Life's really hard in China. Thing that I take for granted in Singapore cannot be treated the same way when you're there. An innocent looking footpath is always planted with animal poo and I had to scrutinize the ground before landing my feet on it. Toilet bowls do not always have flushes in working condition so I'd better try flushing before entering that cubicle. Hot water is not readily avaiable in hotels - not even one that the president of China stayed in.
When I flick the switch on, and channel surf, all I see on TV was disgusting China programmes. Some disturbing Ma Jing Tao show. He was wearing a wig which I (still) suspect was supposed to make him look good but worked the opposite way. Many errors in the shot composition, lighting, etc. and I think their budget was so low they used scrapes of white paper to make snow. So convincing, huh.
The only decent place that I visited was Xiamen. There was a Factory Outlet Sale on the 2nd level of the hotel I was living in and that was happiness. Got a new jacket for myself so I wouldn't have to freeze in lectures and tutorials next sem. Then I got a shirt and that's about it.
Glad to be back in sunny Singapore. I've decided that I don't like China and will not attempt to visit China any time soon. Especially when I'm sensitive to either it's food, water or air I've got a giant zit sitting on my nose now. Ouch.
Next destination in I think 7 days - Malaysia. I'm going to some fruit farm this time round, for a one night stay.
And I'm still dying to go to Thailand again. Cheap and Chic. Hahaha.

PG (Some disturbing elements)(Warning: I swear the following content is disturbing, because it's largely about the work of a particular individual who's currently reading "Garden of the Perverse - Fairy Tales for the Twisted Adults". So don't read if you believe you can't take disturbing stuff. Even I have problems trying to swollow them when I first experience them...)
I am extremely perturbed by my sister, who has been engaging in traumatizing activities lately.
Some of them were intentional, some were not. Let's start with those that were intentional first.
She has been, somehow, very interested in BTS. I cannot understand why, because she only saw the pathetic photo of him in the HSS Dept. website. He didn't look exactly good in that photo. And I didn't really tell her about how wonderful he is, unlike what I said of M. In the first place, I only saw him once, and it was during an exam when 99.999% of my concentration was on the paper, not the man.
But when I signed in to my MSN Messenger, I couldn't help but stare at my sister's avatar in horror - it's a photo of BTS!!!
I know very well that when she placed M on her avatar, it was purely for the purpose of irritating me. But this time round, I know it's not. She "likes" him, for some (non-existant) reason. And I am disturbed! Let me show you just why this is so.
These are some things she said about BTS, and though inconceivably disgusting, I swear I quoted her word for word.
About how she wants him to pose as Legolas from LOTR:
"I will dress him in elf suit, slap him with makeup, dye his hair white, shave his goatie, and teach him how to use the bow and
shoot the arrow so that it pierces into the hearts of a thousand women."
About how she wants to start a conversation with him (inspired by the Little Red Riding Hood, which she imagines would make her converstation more cultured):
Version ISis: OHH!!! What broad shoulders you have!
BTS: The better for you to perch on!!!
Version IIBTS: OHH!!! What long toe nails you have!
Sis: The better to perch on you!!!
My Response (Sincerely)... to puke endlessly. I will ensure this will never happen. Never.
(In the first place, I don't know where she got the idea that he has broad shoulders...)
Ohhh... I am starting to feel uneasy posting all these... Although there are more terrifying things she said, I think I should just stop here for the time being in case people with weak hearts meet their end upon reading my blog.
Now, I'll move on to her linguistic deficiency (aka the unintentional terrors she brought).
I was MSN-ing her on my laptop, while she was sitting 50cm away from me, using her laptop too. She didn't reply after a while, so I asked her why she ignored me. And this was her verbal reply.
"我还没有看到你的讲话".
I thought I would be terrorized eternally. But thankfully, I managed to recover from my shock after a while. Although I got an ugly C for my Chinese in JC, I detected the error in that reply. The big, fat, glaring error.
O! I shall never attempt to terrify anyone again after experiencing the anguish of being a victim of such atrocities.

Back to CivilizationRecently, I've this very strong desire to be... less of an uncultured, crude and uncivilized person.
Maybe this will sound stupid, but somehow I feel that my aspiration to become a civilized person is due to my parents' decision to shift - a change in our residence.
I love to be emersed in new environment. And I enjoy the process and outcome of adapting to my surrounding. And this time round, I swear everything's gonna be
seriously new to me at my new address.
Most importantly, I'm gonna experience liberation for the first time in my life - I'm gonna have my own room. Meaning I can slap whatever posters I want on my walls, blast whatever music I desire to listen to, dictate when the lights should be switched off at night, and ensure that no plant that is grown in soil or water ever makes an appearance in my room.
(Note: I think plants grown in soil or water are disgusting. The only plants I can tolerate are dried flowers, cactus [because the "soil" in this case is usually so dry it resembles sand] and air plants. I think freshly cut flowers are pretty though, but I hate to touch them because they are wet and slimy... they'd better be wrapped nicely so I won't have to touch them at all.)
Okie, back to my transformation.
I am starting to visualize myself sitting on my new bed (or a couch), reading decent books, sipping freshly brewed fruit or floral tea from a pretty cup. Then, I will look up occasionally and see the clouds move gracefully across the sky right in front of me (yes, the structure of my new room will allow this to happen, I am not imagining). Sometimes, I will randomly take in a deep, deep breath when I feel like it - to inhale the fresh scent of vanilla - i.e. I'm gonna invest in aroma therapy stuff, or rob my sister of hers.
Then, I will play nice music to fill the dead air in the room, to create an atmosphere of brillance - Although my mom and sis are highly suspicious of how my lostprophets, mcr, the used etc... albums are gonna blend in with the vanilla scent and the visuals of my floral tea, pretty cup and floating clouds...
I told them not to worry, I will settle all that.
But my mom got suspicious again when she saw me picking up a black candle the other day, declaring that I'll get 3 of them and place them in my room as decor. She was even more horrified when I happily showed her the Barca shot glass that Tinky and Ali got for me, and declared that it will also be on display in the room. She asked me how the candles and the shot glass are supposed to help enhance the "cultured-ness" of my room and I replied - black candles create a gothic aura; and the shot glass that seems so out-of-place beside the candles... contributes to... erm... a paradox? An irony? Or more simply... a contrast.
Obviously, mom is appalled by my ideas. Now, she's impeding my progress to becoming a more cultured person by imposing loads of rules. But I believe that creativity cannot be killed so easily. I am thus brainstorming like I never did before - in order to develop ways to circumvent the rules.
I am smart and I will succeed.
