The Uncivilized vs The Intellect

Yesterday was a very bad day for me.

In the morning before I left the house to join my friends in town, I checked the newly uploaded class schedule, thinking happily to myself that yea... I'm gonna be an E.Lit minor student the coming semester.

But when I saw the class schedule, I was stunned - the lecture of the prerequisite module for almost every other E.Lit course clashes with my core's lecture slot - meaning I can't start pursuing my minor unless i do something about it.

So I did. I called the OAS and I bugged and bugged the person to help. But she said dismissively and indifferently - take another minor, lor.

WTF.

The way she puts it was like... deciding whether to have peanut butter bread or scone for breakfast you see. Anything does.

But HEY! This is a minor. You shouldn't expect me to just pick any minor randomly yea? I know, maybe a minor doesn't really matter that much, but still, as part of the school administration, shouldn't you be more sympathetic, more concerned about the student's welfare?

I was seriously disturbed, to the extent my tastebuds went numb and I don't feel hungry even past lunch time. When I stepped into Kinokuniya, which I visited just the day before and happily bought a required text for one of the Lit modules I intended to take, I felt a strange feeling of emptiness within - There're so many Lit books in the bookstore, but none I can buy, because the OAS woman insists on not helping me get my Lit modules next sem.

I didn't really play like I usually would yesterday. When I reached home, I charged towards my laptop and started sending out SOS emails to whoever I thought could save me.

And Prof Murphy came to my rescue.

He was really nice and told the department secretary to allow me to continue with the advanced modules first. When I received his email this morning, I felt the sun shining again.

Though I'm still not sure if I'll eventually get the modules I want to get the coming semester, I'm at least not feeling as helpless as yesterday. Seriously, that's the difference between how an intellect solves a problem, and how some random woman worsens an already exisitng problem.

Thank you Prof Murphy, you rock!

Perils in the CyberWorld

KL and I have sucessfully scared the shit out of Tinky Tan.

And it was really fun.

I suspect the marriage theories that KL and I proposed traumatized her more than Shannon's Information Theory, and of course, Brendon's theory about how rat shit can disrupt the process of preserving information.

I also individually came up with a theory on how I want a particular individual to be slain. This was inspired by what Ali saw in Canteen A. A heartbreaking scene...

But what the theories are, I shall not tell. Because I've grown to realize that you can never blog traumatic things that can possibly ruin your reputation on your blog.

I tried to do it for fun the other day, and wrote something extremely horrific just to scare Tinky. I planned to take it down immediately after getting her to read it. But here is what happened in chronological order:

1) I posted the blog.
2) And immediately informed Tinky to read it.
3) Tinky read it immediately and was horrified.
4) I was happy and decided to take away the traumatic component.
5) After editing my post, I reloaded the page to see how the edited entry looked like.
(note: all these happened in less than 7 minutes)
6) Upon reloading the page, I saw - to my horror - comments on my latest blog entry...

All these implied that within that 7 minutes, there ARE ALREADY people who read the entry... the UNEDITED entry I mean.

Oh shit. I am so dead.

Ahhh... So Fine!

Today, I had two papers. But that's not the point.

Today, upon arriving at the exam venue, Ali grabbed me and screamed.
1) She saw Mark on her way here.
2) BTS is here in the exam hall.

Immediately, I started to hyperventilate. And so did Sarah and KL and all those who have a "slight" interest in him.

WOOOWWWW.

I quickly checked the seat arrangement to see if I'm gonna be seated strategically enough to have a good view of him and was thrilled to find that I'm sitting EXTREMELY near the invigilator's desk. It can't get any better, can it?

Upon entering the exam hall, I was grinning madly to myself when I saw him placing his belongings on the chair right in front of the row I was sitting. Soooooo near!!!

YW came in a while later, and she was hyperventilating also, I can tell. She exclaimed that she'll definitely forget all her Hofstede's theory due to his presence. But of course... how can she not when she's sitting right IN FRONT of where BTS placed his water bottle and stuff.

Ahhh... water bottle... water... hmmmm.........

Ok, anyway all was fine until at one point during the exam, YW suddenly waved blatantly at BTS. I stared in amazement. Then, I saw him lean over (towards her), and lifted his arms across her... to show her the time.

THE TIME.

What a freaking good excuse... to ask for the time!!!!!!!!

Ahhh I should've known...

Finally, after a rather enjoyable 2 hours, our papers were collected and we waited for our release. But that didn't come very soon. Because BTS couldn't find one of the scripts.

So Angela announced that a "Magic Realism" (it's MAGICAL... not magic... that uncivilized biatch) script was missing. And when she said that, many people burst out laughing. For different reasons.

People who know us (Ali, Tinky etc...) laughed because it's him. People who know what Magical Realism is laughed because of Angela's stupidity. People who knew NOTHING (note: the row of future engineers I think, sitting beside me) laughed so hard (I hope they die) because... well... they assumed that BTS used... (I feel stupid saying this even)... MAGIC, to make the script disappear.

WTF. Those lowly, ignorant and unworthy idiots. They know nuts!

But well... whatever. My exam's over and I'm happy that this potentially horrible day went so well! I was in such high spirits that I suddenly decided Brendon is a nice guy and I like him!

BTS is not THAT hot, but he made my day!

The Twist

He refused to even email a "thanks" to acknowledge that he's received my email.

Suddenly, I like Koch better.

Suddenly, I don't like him anymore. Asshole.

Tuesday with M

I kept telling myself to not blog about this because I'm clearly over-reacting (according to the supposedly "sane" people). Because it's embarrassing. Because it's really silly... And most importantly -- because (surprisingly) people do read my blog and come jumping in my face quoting from my posts, and laughing their arses off.

But I read the chapter on Sigmund Freud again (Oh I love him), and decided that if I don't blog about this, I'll probably turn hysterical... I'm in serious need of Carthesis.

A bit of background...

We've been extremely troubled by CS222. Not just the course itself, and the silly CMU project that is of obscure and dubious nature - but we're troubled by the instructions that the fucking arse gave that's 99.9999% of the time in conflict with what the prof said. It's even worse when he freaking claimed (note: I used the word CLAIMED, a polite alternative to the word LIED) that he's the one who's marking and GRADING EVERYTHING. It made us feel obliged to listen to his "instructions" instead of the prof's, and made us believe that the prof is lazy and incompetent, always relying on her TA to give out instructions and get things done.

What's worse than such confusion is that the fucking arsehole cheated us into giving him our MSN contacts, saying that he needed it for in-dept interview. We're kind people and decided to help - little did we realize we've been conned by him. He started bugging us both in the virtual and real world... asking for personal contacts and favours (like phone numbers, giving him a lift, and clubbing with him etc...) Atrocious. Girls are starting to feel uncomfortable, and guys are beginning to feel irritated.

But of course, he's an irritant.

So, with all these problems that we faced, backed by the fact that the prof is not around for some reason (we tried to look for her on the day [Tuesday] itself), we decided to find M for help. We tried to get him twice, but the first time round, the staff at the GO were out for lunch and we couldn't enter the office. Then, an hour later, M went out for lunch so we couldn't get him again.

Ahhh... the misery!

But it's only natural that good things don't come by so easily... and I tell you, he's more than good. He's fantabulous.

We popped into his room, and he wasn't startled at all, by the fact that 6 people charged into his office to lodge a complaint... Oh no... "feedback" I mean. He made us sit down, offered us chocolates which we all declined (I secretly wanted to keep one for myself and one for YW as souvenirs), and took out a piece of paper to jot down what we said.

Let me add a tiny bit of details. His chocolates are not of inferior quality... It's Roche. Okie I know, Roche isn't really that great, but hey... at least it's not Cadbury or the likes. And imagine offering Roche to everyone who comes into your office (and I bet he gets visitors quite often since he's who he is)... How wonderfully generous!

And okie, I know people are going to scream at me for saying this... but even the papers he used to jot down our nonsense... they're not inferior... they're pretty, colored sheets of paper that are at least 2x thicker than normal foolscaps! Oh my god.

He was very attentive, very concerned about the situation we're in. And he's very considerate about not making the situation awkward for the Prof and James as well.

I can tell that he's worried about what James is doing... according to him, James is putting us in a double-blind situation; He is concerned that we're afraid to defy James' wishes (to club with him and stuff...), thinking that it'll affect our grades. Actually, I also think that M is highly amused at how ridiculous James' requests are. Hehe.

He encouraged us to tell the Prof everything that we've told him. I guess he didn't want to interfere (yet) and make the Prof traumatized by his sudden interference. How sweet and considerate! And his "encouragement tactic" was a killer - he said (something like that, I can't remember the exact words), "Please promise me that you'll tell Pamela about this, don't leave it hanging... Promise?"

Oh my god... the words "promise me" coming out of his mouth almost killed me. Ah... I could see stars dancing around me... it's all too surreal.

Can you imagine.. his extremely sexy accent, coupled by the sincere look in his eyes... How can you not do what he wants you to do???

Talking about his eyes... He's wonderful at establishing eye contact. Tinky told me after the session with M, that M kept looking at her. Normally, I'd have been really jealous, so jealous I'll plant a bomb in her hall to kill her. But I'm not. Because I noticed that M established eye contact with EVERYONE in the room, and each contact will last for a minute or two... and it's sooooooo very charming and sincere you wouldn't want to look away, and you'll imagine that he's looking at you and you only and that the rest of the world don't get to experience what you're enjoying. I usually cannot stand looking into another person's eyes for more than 10 seconds, but this time I lasted for as long as it took.

And M's really cute. First, he called James "the one in glasses and is heavy". Then, he cheekily suggested that blocking James on MSN would be a good idea. Next, he imagined that we'll jump off the bridge if Govin teaches us next sem. Then, I noticed him biting and sucking the pen that he's holding as he listened to us talk. I was so amused I stared quite hard at him, and perhaps he noticed my bewildered stare and quickly pulled the pen out from his mouth (Ohhh I was super tickled what that happened). And finally, when he asked Tinky to give him our email addresses, they all burst out laughing (I was the only one not laughing because I was too terrorized that he might find out the real reason behind the hysterical laughing). He imagined that they're laughing because they're assuming that he's another James; he thought it was amusing and started laughing too, while reassuring us that he wouldn't add us on MSN and bug us. But he's so wrong. First, they're laughing because they know about... *ahem*... you know. Then he's wrong again because I bet none of us (especially... *ahem*) will mind him adding us on MSN!!! He's sooooo nice! Unlike that freaking arsehole! But isn't he sooo soooooo silly (but cute) to think that we're imagining that he's another stalker???

OOOOOMMMMGGGGGG.

When we finally left the room, KL and I started hyperventilating. Tinky finally admitted that he's really nice. And all of us love him.

And, KL's starting to be extremely "gian-ish"... his "sexy accent" is ringing in her head even the next day. Wahaha... terror for Ali!!!

Sigh... What a wonderful day.

The Terrors of 229

Taking 229 means you gotta stay in the avid from 9am to 10pm at least 2 out of 5 days a week; endure the fact that zits come popping up on your face; having your car scratched here and there because the equipment are thrown into it like garbage; having to eat fastfood 20% of the time, having to eat hotbake sandwiches 30% of the time, and having no food to eat 50% of the time.

But taking 229 also made me a smarter person -- I begin to recognize the fact that it doesn't matter if the module has lousy time slots -- although 229 has the prettiest time slots ever, it doesn't help that in the end, I have to stay in school almost 24/7 cuz of filming and editing.

I also learnt that it is important that, in the future, IF I'm gonna take any more modules that require filming and editing, I better find someone whom I'd gladly look at for 12 hours a day to film (so that editing wouldn't be such a terrible process).

229 aside, I'm all set for choosing next sem's modules.

Suddenly, I have an urge to minor in English.

Wahahaha. Wahahaha. Wahahaha.

So sooooo exciting.
