Bangkokyou cannot imagine how excited and amazed and happy you can be when you're faced with an endless stream of shops selling t-shirts at S$7, shorts at S$5 and denim skirts at $17. multiply it by 7, since there're like 7 levels in the MBK shopping mall, and you emerge happier than ever.
that's how i felt 3 days ago in bangkok.
i cannot help but think of myself as a billionaire, although i'm usually more of a broke kid back here in singapore. for the 5x i consider before making purchases locally, i do not even bother to consider once over in bangkok. you see, a stupid purchasing decision costs only $7... you wouldn't really mind would you?
the only regret that i have is not buying enough. there's this wonderful t-shirt store on the 1st lvl of MBK that sells locally designed (which really means cool, original & authentic) t-shirts for just 150 bhat. i refuse to believe that the smallest size can fit me so i just bought a piece to minimize loss, but after i tried it on in the hotel at night, i realize my stupidity... for such pretty prints & soft fabric, i should've bought a dozen more to supply myself for the next 6 months. arghhh...
to compensate my pyschological damage, i went on to shop at the suan lam (if that's how you spell it) night bazaar for more good bargains. there, i forced myself into buying 2 t-shirts to make myself believe that they can make up for the dozen i should've bought from MBK earlier. of course they can't, but well... that's the best i can do.
then, there's something else that makes this trip kindda hanging in the air for me.
first, is that i couldn't get time off to drop by the jersey wholesaler at city square. the fakes there are SUPER real. with the adidas, nike etc. logo printed nicely, the "climatecool" and this silverish tag placed on just like the authentic, and this circular thing on the sleeve. when i saw my dad's colleague wearing the brazil and deutsch jerseys, i wanted to die.
the jerseys i managed to get hold of in mbk is, to be honest, of inferior quality. okie maybe the fabric is alright, but the printing sucked totally. whenever i lean on the backrest of chairs, i can feel the "9" and "f.torres" on my back sticking onto the backrest. i am horrified. everytime i rose from my seat, i'll get my mom to check if the number and the name is still there. if they get stuck to the chair, i will cry.
so, despite the lousy quality (and the fact that my fake jerseys do not have the brand logo on them), i bought 6 pieces althoughter - for myself and for others, here's what i've got:
- 2x f.torres spain jersey (one for me and one for tinky)
- 1x kaka brazil jersey (supposedly for tinky, but shit i bought the boy size by mistake)
- 1x atletico madrid jersey (obviously for myself, since nobody supports the club. but it may possibly be demoted into my pajamas should torres leave atletico)
- 1x deco barca jersey (for myself)
- 1x park jisung korea jersey (for my sis)
i was so excited about my jerseys i wore my deco piece that very night... and wth i was laughed at by strangers when i happily made my way around the night bazaar. wth is so funny about me wearing a jersey???
and the thais i tell you, are a weird bunch of people. i tried asking for ramos' and deco's jersey but only managed to find the latter in one pathetic store after many tries somewhere else. and everytime i ask for what i want, they'll say they don't have it, and add another offending comment after that (in broken english) -- "not good.. so no have." and then, they'll suggest to me -- "spain raul good... i have... you buy."
i wanted to give them a good bashing but reduced it to just mere cursing in cantonese and chinese. i am a sweet natured person. (wahaha...)
okie... erm and to continue... i made many other purchases like pretty hand-made leather shoes at S$21, and linen shorts at like.. i forgot but it's super cheap! oh no i suddenly feel very cheapskate.. hohoho!
to prevent embarrasing myself further, i shall stop here. but arghhh... i so want to get back to bangkok again!!! NATAs here i come!!!
p.s. if anyone is going to bangkok anytime soon, please please tell me... i need you to help me get something...

The Legend of the Flying Lizardyesterday night i had a horrifying experience.
sounds incredible and in fact, ridiculous,
but i witnessed a lizard fly under my nose, across a distance of like half a meter.
yes, the lizard FLEW.
i don't understand how but it did.
and i swear i didn't lie.
that sent me screaming for quite a few minutes
and refusing to sit at our dinner table (which is near where the lizard flew) during dinner time, although my mom assured me that the flying lizard was not there anymore.
i hate lizards.
i hate frogs.
i don't even eat frog legs cuz the sight of them freaks me out.
i wonder why don't all the reptiles in the world just die.
they're uber hateful i don't like them.
hmph.

Californiai'm suddenly listening to phantom planet's "california" again. as in over and over again. in loop. it was a few years back when i first heard the song and back then, i was addicted for quite some time.
there's this strange feeling of familarity, homliness, homesickness, loneliness, emptiness, strayness and jadedness (if that's what the word is supposed to be) that grow in me whenever i listen to the song. weird how these feelings can all come together at the same time.
but it is not the lyrics of the song that stirs up all that emo in me. the music itself does all the work.
(note: i usually pay no attention to the lyrics of songs on my 1st listen).
my 1st listen and i am hooked... unable to get myself out of the emotional state i am in. and this time, i'm more addicted than i was before.
i'm not sure why this is the case. maybe i've grown older and there's some experience that i've been through (but am unaware of) that made me more emo than before?
or is it the emptiness in me... that is i don't know for what reason... there?
maybe it's just that the world cup has ended.
maybe it's just that the holidays have been too long i'm getting bored.
lame reasons but oh well... i'm definitely not homesick so i can't think of a better reason.
maybe someone can tell me after listening to the song.
(request it from me i'm more than happy to share... yay!)

Science ExperimentApparatusOne cup filled with sugarcane drink.
One cup filled with nothing.
An ant.
ControlBoth cups are of same design, quality and size.
Both cups are placed at the same place, and left to stand for the same amount of time.
ObjectiveTo prove that science theories can be trusted.
ObservationThe ant i planted on my laptop, which is seated between the two cups, crawled onto the empty cup instead of the cup with sugercane drink.
ConclusionScience cannot be trusted. It says ants are attracted to sweet stuff but NO, they're not.
Damn. I'm currently suffering from psychological trauma... wth I've been cheated by my science teachers for years and years and nobody gives a damn. Cry for me...

i can't readi was browsing through a forum and it suddenly hit me that i can't read, or rather, pronounce certain names.
like, how do you pronounce the name pique?
i decided it sounds something like "pig", with a tingue of "k-ness" when pronouncing the "g" in "pig".
if you understand what i'm trying to say, please correct me if the way i pronounce it is wrong.
wadeva it is, i'm just so bored.
world cup is over and it'a another month before the next football season starts.
the sight of the next season's jerseys at adidas and nike shops makes me excited.
... and i'm still holding on to my cash, wondering which club jersey i should invest on. it's hateful to see players transfer all over the place especially when everything seems to go against my wish.

Back and Bummed (on FOC and Zidane's headbutt)finally back from my 5-day camp and i'm in a state of wateva-ness.
no sleep for the past 27 hours, and it's not like i've been sitting there or lying around for the long waking hours...
i was playing sea sports and trying to be a friendly ghost ushering freshies around larh...
(not to mention having to chase them back as they scurried away, screaming, from the ghost of jeremy the little boy... blehhh.)
think my "ghost" make up just made me look like some punk kid attending a rock concert. especially my eye make up, totally reminds myself of good charlotte and friends. the freshies just happily swayed past me, ignorant of the fact that i'm supposed to be a ghost as well. bloody hell.
anyway i've been trying to catch up with the on-going head butt saga. the world is on zidane's side and i just hate it.
yea so what if materazzi's been known for foul play?
so what if zidane's zidane?
reputation is no gauge for what is right and wrong, action is.
let's just look at what are the things we all (inculding the people involved) can agree on:
- zidane and materazzi all agree that there was pulling of jersey that led to zizou telling mat that he can exchange jersey with him after the match.
- mat admitted to insulting zizou after the zizou comment, and this was backed by zizou's statement.
- zizou admitted that mat didn't call him some wateva shit terrorist, as claimed by many lip-readers.
so what can we say?
in my opinion, the comment on the jersey thing was quite an insult. com'on zidane, who do you think you are? i wouldn't want your jersey even if i had a chance to get hold of it. tugging and pulling happens all the time in football so just chill. you don't have to be so arrogant and start imagining people want your jersey so badly. i would really consider this an insult. AND REMEMBER... it seems both zizou and mat agree that this was the spark that ignited the whole headbutting incident, so... who started it all? tsk tsk...
next, some people tried to force materazzi out with what he said to zizou. when mat declined to do so, they become confident that the insult was as what zizou claimed it to be -- some remarks on his mom and sis.
as materazzi puts it, his insults were those you'd blurt out when provoked. you know, naturally words like "son of a b*tch" or "mother ****er" are one of them. i wouldn't consider these comments too offensive cuz seriously, they're not uncommon are they?
BUT again, materazzi insisted that he didn't make comments on zizou's mom cuz he said moms are sacred to him, so well, we don't know.
and on some people's claims that mat was lying becuz he refused to tell the press what his exact insulting words are... i don't give a damn to their stupid claims. i'm not saying they're completely wrong, it's just that you wouldn't expect materazzi to tell the press blatently: "oh... it's nothing much i just told zidane to f*ck off" or something like that.
an insult is an insult is an insult. no matter how common or mild it is, it's never nice to hear. if i were materazzi, even if the insult i threw at zidane was the commonest stuff like: "oh get off me you balding piece of shit", i wouldn't repeat that to the media. would you? so you can't just dismiss mat's refusal to repeat himself as an excuse to cover up his lie. we can't be sure if he lied in the first place.
zidane's supporters on this incident, get alive.
realize that this is zidane's last match before retirement.
realize that this is the WC finals.
realize that zidane scored the 1st goal from materazzi's foul.
realize that materazzi equalized.
realize that materazzi marked him throughout the match, giving him trouble in the game.
realize that materazzi gave france hopes and then took it away cruelly from the equalizer.
realize that in 10min if zidane don't score he'll buang his WC 2006 dream and diminish his heroism in people's hearts, which has been very high throughout the tournament.
i think these are all reasons enough and in fact, stronger, to support the headbutt.
besides, no matter how serious the insult is, it's up to you to choose how much you want to be affected by it. but a physical assult, woohhh. i bet materazzi can't choose how badly he has to be injured when that blading head came smashing into his chest.
and note, mat's chest cavity could've burst.
i say no matter how wrong materazzi is, zidane's still wronger than him. strip him off his golden boot and return it to buffon. if you're in your thirties and you can't control your temper... your magical football touch can't save you. shame shame...
note: it is important to realize that media reports often lack objectivity due to various reasons.one of which includes the fact that audience tastes have to be taken into account. based on the fan base zidane has, it is not surprising to find reports that are biased in favor of him, so watch out for them.

World Cup Finals Conversation with Momi love watching world cup with my mom. it's always full of surprises. sometimes she knocks sense into me, sometimes she completely misses the point, sometimes she influences me to miss the point together with her. but watching world cup with mommy is more exciting than watching zizou wham his head into materazzi's chest.
ouch. i thought materazzi was going to die on the spot. i will cry if he did so thank goodness he didn't. and here are the golden moments of the world cup final in our cosy little home, on our cosy little couch.

Inhumanityyou know maid agencies often put on the best display of inhumanity.
my maid had to go for this thumb-printing thing for dunno what reason.
so we were supposed to send her to the agency before 10am, and they would then send the whole bunch of maids to the venue where the printing is done.
logically speaking, people have their breakfast at say... 8am, and lunch between 11.30am to 2pm, right?
so, leaving our maid at the agency at 10am, and picking them up to bring them back at 6pm would mean that lunch had to be taken at the maid agency's, no?
i was concerned about her lunch so i double checked with my mom if lunch would be provided for her and based on the above logic, we concluded that it will.
moreover, maids pay their agencies up to $2k for getting a job here. asking for a decent meal from them isn't too much is it?
but when my mom picked my maid up at 6pm, the disgusting truth broke free.
she didn't have any food, nor water, since the moment she stepped out of our house. and that was at 9.30am.
eight and a half hours without food and water.
wtf is that?
when my mom knew it, she immediately bought food for my maid to eat before bringing her home.
and as i opened the door to welcome them back, i was greeted rudely by this disgusting piece of information.
i was fuming and cursed the maid agency and their agents really badly, i even encouraged my mom to sue them for doing all these nonsense to the maids. my mom was really pissed too but according to her, half the maid agencies in singapore do this to cut cost and there's really little we can do to change the situation.
but half the agencies doing it doesn't make this right does it?
that shows how much regard for life and human rights these agencies have.
com'on man. a life is a life is a life.
who are they to decide that maids deserve this kind of treatment?

Psychological Imbalance or What?why are some guys so pissed at good footballers who, you know, happen to be hot as well?
as much as i think it is
sometimes true that these people tend to get more limelight and credits, i don't really see how this is wrong, especially if they're skilled enough to deserve our adoration.
and note, i underlined the word "sometimes" because that don't always happen. in fact, in football sense, it seldom happens. trust me, not because i keep close watch on football, but because i admit that i'm a big fan of many sizzling footballers.
look, it's not like ronaldinho, rooney, riquelme, kahn, henry and co. didn't get enough applause and compliments for their performances. they've got a fair share of these despite
not being the least bit hot. no?
(oh god and did i forget to mention messi...)
and then look at the hot footballers.
from the (relatively) useless garcia to the more useful (i daren't say marvelous in case such a value-laden word ignite the jealousy in guys again... sigh...) people like casillas, torres, cesc, sheva, ramos etc... do we really think they're being over rated? i swear i haven't seen any piece of media report that praised them overly.
and i'm sure jose mourinho didn't want to buy sheva because he's hot, although i would.
face it, besides the case of becks, there's hardly another footballer who got more credit than he really should due to his looks. and look, now that becks is some dwindling piece of you-know-what, he did get a fair share of criticism didn't he?
so guys who gets furious when your female friends show their support for the good & hot footballers (let's call them GHFs for convenience), what's your issue? i don't get it. if you claim to love the beauty of the sport, these girls do too by selecting the skilled players to fall in love with. in addition to that, why can't you just accept the fact that human beings are beauty lovers by nature... even babies smile at pretty faces and frown at uglier ones in case you're unaware. so when suddenly we're faced with a pitchful of hunks who're wonderful players, why are we blamed for supporting them?
even if the girls wana show support for the useless but hot footballers, or hot jerks like c.ronaldo, don't complain as long as they know which aspect of the footballer they're admiring at.
it's like... okie this is lame but yea i like garcia cuz i think his thumb sucking act is cute, and he's quite cute too, but i know he's not exactly a wonderful player (**tinky i'm gonna piss u off wahahahaha!!!) so i just stop there at my "wooo my garcia!!!", knowing all the time i sound stupid. but i don't argue that he's a great footballer so i don't think i'm wrong in any sense.
so guys (u know who you are), what's your issue???
this is how perverted all of you are if you start ranting on and on about your female friends being idiots for liking the GHFs:
- you suppress the human instinct: our love for beauty.
- you force us to close our eyes at hotness, and focus only on talent even when hotness is often more glaring & obvious of the two when present in a single person.
- you're biased. why is it that you accept the fact that talent is a gift to marvel at, but looks are not?
- you're rude. you insist that your female friends like GHFs soley based on their looks. that's mind-reading and jean grey did that and was ticked off for being rude. so you're rude.
you see, all you're trying to do is to go against nature. it's like locking a lion in a cage, and that's cruel. so please stop it.
the next time you ask your female friend something like casillas or van der sar? smile at them if the answer is casillas... it's only natural... so face it.
**somehow girls are more big-hearted. we'll join in the fun when our guy friends admire pretty girls and even help pick out the pretty ones. unlike some of our male counterparts, getting all hot and worked up when we go gaga over pretty boys... tsk tsk... guess we all have a healthier self-esteem.

Ewwww.....okie hurray that eriksson is losing his job as the english coach, and hurray that becks is giving up his captain armband.
but what scolari mentioned (that he wouldn't mind considering being the english coach should the english FA give him another proposal) didn't quite happen now that i realize steve mcclaren's eriksson's successor.
it was just yesterday when i saw him on tv talking about his possibilities of being the english coach. he cheated me how could he.
and while i was frantically searching for bits of info to find out who'll be the next spanish coach, i saw this on fifaworldcup.com:
"Before the finals Aragones had said he would leave the post if Spain failed to reach the semi-finals. The venerable coach decided to change his mind, however, and will continue with the project he embarked on two years ago. His next objective is the 2008 UEFA European Championship, a valuable testing ground for another date with destiny in four years time: the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™."
and then i also caught this quote (on the spain vs france clash) from aragones saying:
“We certainly gave as good as we got, but when you go 1-0 up you shouldn’t really lose if everyone knows how to compete.
I didn’t know how to compete because I should have had a plan to ensure that didn’t happen. It was an even game that France won because of tiny details. They just did those little things better.”
the underlined sentenced sent me dashing head-first into the nearest wall. and spain retained him???
for god's sake this old man is 67. in 4 years, he's 71. and i cannot imagine how a 71-year-old can go about risking his heart and health coaching football. if the coach is gone, the squad is gone. i know it is not a good idea to risk having a younger coach if he hasn't got the experience, but it's a greater risk to have an old old coach whose health you cannot be sure of. i mean, not that aragones is diseased or anything. it's just... old man are prone to shit health you know.
anyway, worries aside, i'm beginning to wonder how i can save up in time to catch spain in action in south africa, 4 years later. anyone interested, contact me. thanks.

Goodbye Rooneyyou don't expect yourself to stay on the pitch when you step on someone's *ouch* on purpose right? c.ronaldo's adding of spice to rooney's act just adds on to the entertainment value of the event. i was laughing my ass off as i witnessed the entire thing. sheer stupidity.
if that red card was for the push on c.ronaldo, it's really too harsh though. but for that fatal step, it's more than justified. it could cost a family you know, really.
anyway, yesterday was the first day i watched a match with my sis and mom. they never last more than the 1st half of any game, unless it's timed on the 9pm slots. and wooohh... never under estimate what my mom is capable of doing.
she was wowing all over the place as figo (her 2nd or 3rd favourite footballer) ran about, and argued with my anti-ronaldo sis on the worth (in terms of skill and appearance) of ronaldo. i was speechless as they argued on, baffled by their enthusiasm, and mesmerized as well as saddened by frank lampard. he is as cute as ever, but playing as badly as never. how many missed shots had he in the entire tournament? such a let down i wana cry...
anyway, it is sick to see the entire english squad playing the defensive role. there is a wall (or a sea) of englishmen positioned there to tear apart any attacking effort from the portugese side. this made the sight of eriksson more irritating than ever. not like he's never been irritating... i wana bite his head off. even his assistant looks like he can do a better job as a coach, at least he feels for the squad and tries to do something about what can be done. eriksson is just drinking water all the way throughout the match. 95% of the time when the camera peeps at him, he's drinking. wth? is he afraid of dehydration as well?
erkisson, u're old you know. be careful not to overwork your bladder.
i didn't really mind the english team if not for eriksson and crouch. even when rooney attacked casillas 2 years ago, i don't exactly dislike him. when rooney was sent off, i went:
shit, crouch is on.
and so he is. and that bloody human stick went lumbering all over the place, and he couldn't keep his limbs to himself as they swang all over, smacking the portugese players like jay chou's "shuang jie gun". an apt description i would say.
i'm beginning to think eriksson loves him so much not for his height, but for his ability to whack opponants flat and getting off with it because it wasn't intentional.
i have to admit it wasn't intentional. i mean, when your limbs stick out like that, how do you keep them under control? i'm sorry crouch, i accused you of fouling before it occurred to me you're incapable of balancing without swinging your limbs around -- your CG is too high i realized. and i shd've realized this long ago. it's secondary school science.
crouch and his fans, i'm really sorry. please forgive me, will you?
okie, and to continue, ronaldo's dribbling and trickery are cool once again. although his selfishness made me wana smack him as usual. with every lost opportunity for the portugese, i cried out "where is deco???"
he's benched, not as a reserve though.
oh and i just remembered another sore pimple on the face of english football. hargreaves that asshole. i would've kicked him off even before rooney if i were the ref. his stinky little fouls made me fume.
and then, the pso:
when it's lampard vs ricardo, i wanted lampard to score but he didn't.
when it's ferdinand vs ricardo, i wanted fer to score but he didn't.
when it's hargreaves vs ricardo, i wanted hargreaves to miss and ricardo to fly in the wrong direction but both didn't (or did ricardo? i forgot.)
then portugal won, ricardo saving 3. and i went WTHHHHH!!!!!
ricardo is hero once again with me and me alone being the only unconvinced soul on planet earth that he is a good goalkeeper. he is not. he just talks alot and pretends to be all cool about everything. pardon me if i sound biased but that's really what i feel.
i didn't mind portugal winning, in fact i am happy that deco gets to play again. it's just that ricardo the fobbish gets the limelight, and he's gonna brag all over again. sick to the core.
i did a little celebration nevertheless, cheering as i jumped on my sofa, but that was nothing compared to my mom's "yesshhhhhh!!! deco and figo are back!!!" kindda thing, with lots of exclaimation marks behind each word. she was more excited than anyone i've seen watching football. even dad who's sleeping upstairs woke up i think.
then i saw the saddened face of lampard and the crying ferdinand and went awwww.................
maybe scolari will accept the english FA's proposal after 31st.
maybe this is beckham's last world cup and rio or lampard can take over the captian wristband.
maybe scolari, after accepting the proposal, kicks crouch and hargreaves out.
then... maybe i'll support england too in 2010. it's really their coach and crouch and got on my nerves.
